My Journey with Sound: Exploring the Music of Sencha Skene

If you’re anything like me, you’re always searching for music that speaks to the soul—soundscapes that heal, inspire, and connect you with something deeper. That’s exactly what I aim to create through my work as Sencha Skene. My music isn’t just entertainment; it’s an invitation into a sacred space where Druidic tradition, spiritual storytelling, and earth-based ritual meet.

Over the years, I’ve woven together Celtic chants, Native American flute melodies, and folk-rooted storytelling to create albums that serve as companions for meditation, healing, and spiritual journeying.

🌿 Who I Am as a Musician

I see myself as a bard, a shamanic Druid, and a Pagan mystic. Druidryeco-spirituality, and the mystical rhythms of nature deeply influence my work. Whether I’m composing a chant for Beltane, a flute piece inspired by mountain mist, or a folk song about transformation, I approach each album as a portal to a sacred experience.

🎶 Albums That Reflect My Vision

“Druid Chants”

This album is an offering of ancestral rhythm and breath. I created most of the pieces here for ritual work, solstice celebrations, and sacred circles. It also includes a couple of ancient folk standards like “Lyke Wake Dirge,” with one difference: I took the song and re-paganized it.

“Rainbow Warrior”

Inspired by the colors of the rainbow, each track on this album was crafted with the Native American flute, weaving together the vibrational qualities of red, gold, green, blue, and beyond. It’s ideal for meditation or sound healing journeys.

“Mist on the Mountain”

This one came from walks in the Carolina wilderness. At our Carolina home on Dragon Ridge, we could see Table Rock. That mountain was the inspiration for this album. I blended natural soundscapes with flute improvisations to create a soothing, contemplative experience rooted in place and spirit.

“Winter of the Wheel”

A seasonal meditation in music form, this album honors the wisdom of winter. As an older Pagan, I’ve seen a lot of changes in my time. This was my first Pagan solo album, and it reflects looking back on a lifetime of change in the Pagan community. Now in my winter years, it’s a reflection on my personal journey. Tracks like “The Faeries Came Out to Play” and “The Elder Tree” explore themes of aging, dreaming, and returning to the Source.

“Pronounced SHEN-ka”

My 2024 release. Although my Pagan name come from the Gaelic for ‘chronicler,’ ‘storyteller,’ or ‘historian,’ most people pronounce it like the green tea from Japan: “SIN-cha.” But like most Scottish names, the pronunciation is weird, and it’s actually “SHEN-ka.” I started this album title as a joke because of people mispronouncing it. I don’t take offense when it’s mispronounced since most folks don’t speak Scots Gaelic, but I just wanted to put the correct pronunciation out there into the universe.

The album itself is a collection of stories and ponderings about life as an older Pagan.

🌌 Why I Make This Music

My music exists to support personal rituals, connect with ancestors and the land, and awaken inner vision. I create tracks not just to be heard, but to be felt—in the bones, in the breath, in the stillness between thoughts. If you’re a healer, witch, therapist, or solitary seeker, you’ll find something here to accompany your path. One of my personal favorites is “Coming Home Again.” It’s a sort of reincarnation song. I was lucky enough to find my soul mate at the age of forty, and we’ve been happily married since 2001. This song is my looking forward to finding her again on my next go-round.

My Inspirations

Whether it’s guided meditations, ceremonial chants, or flute songs that echo through the forest, my intention is always to ground, elevate, and transform. I try to write songs that are more universal in nature, or songs that tell a story, or both.

🌲 Let’s Walk the Path Together

Creating this music has been part of my own healing and spiritual journey. When you listen, you’re not just hearing a track—you’re joining me in a sacred conversation with the Earth, the stars, and the ancient ones.

So whether you’re lighting candles on a full moon or sitting quietly with your journal, I hope you’ll find something in my songs that lights a spark within you.

Blessings on your path,
Sencha /|\
